All translating activity is moving to http://xmistervx.blogspot.com/  (I just prefer Google)

Been a while...

Thank you all for your comments; very sorry for not being active and replying. I hadn't imagined it would attract more attention, and wasn't really interested in doing anything else, so I left this to gather dust.

Reposting full translations, just in case someone still needs them:
Side Arms 2 (with pics)
Side Arms 2 (text only)
Always Stand By Me /1
Always Stand By Me /2
[mediafire links... hopefully, they won't go down]

And I don't know whether I'll do anything else. Ideally, ASBM needs another clean-up (typos and stylistically awkward places overlooked for the sake of speed), but I do not have the energy to do that now. Some time ago I was about to start on Haruhi's latest, but then got busy with stuff, and it got translated by other people, which is probably a good thing. Might return when something catches my eye (like the new FMP books, maybe?), but as I said, the translations were fuelled by release/end of series enthusiasm, so no guarantees.

Cheers, and happy beginning of spring, I guess.

Always, Stand By Me [part 2] complete (pic heavy attn)

Hey, it's that time again! Well, I can't keep going on at this pace forever, but at least I've held it for these two books.
First of all, thanks to everyone for your kind comments. Most of the credit should really go to the author, I'm only interpreting his work.
Secondly, there were some... fuzzy spots in the translation. It may not show, but I kind of hope to correct them in the future. Sorry.
Thirdly, here's a little bonus - well, it was sort of a treat for myself, too, but I hope you can enjoy it.
Last Sunday I decided to get off my ass and go down to Choufu to look at the places that are so dear to us, FMP fans, namely Jindai High and the area around it. It's not exceptionally impressive or anything, but I thought it would be nice to just go there and walk around (I like taking long walks, ok? =P ). The photos are relatively big (depending on your connection; right click > Open for full size).

^Temple near the school.

^ That looks familiar, too.

^ Tamagawa river, and the bridge that appears in some of the scenes

^ I made sure to find the exact bushes where Whitey was hiding...

Finally, when I was going back, it turned out the clock near the station was weirder than I thought. Crappy quality, but w/e:

Yeah, Japan is famous for its random stuff, isn't it. But overall, the neighbourhood is pretty nice, and I could even call the area around the school upper middle. Nice place...

Over and out until... the next time? I may continue with some side-stories. Now that everything has ended, I want to go back to Fumoffu-like stuff.

As usual, thanks to Lanove for the scans.

Oh and, since we're in an FMP! mood, and I haven't seen this before:

This is pretty epic. Sry if it's old.

Always, Stand By Me [part 1] complete.

Oh hey guys. I thought someone else was going to pick this up quickly, like shutazen, but there seem to be no signs of activity, so I just did it myself.
I tried to get it done as quickly as possible, and I'm really kind of tired of it now, plus my editor is on holiday, so expect a somewhat less refined text. That said, I'll definitely go back for a revision or two.

Special thanks to the guys at Lanove for the heads up, the scans, etc. Expect a Spanish version from them soon!

Complete "Side Arms 2" release! Now with pictures!

^ this is basically what you get in the stories that I have the pleasure of putting online for you today ^

Yes, that's right, I didn't suddenly die. My semester was over, so I've finished the Side Arms 2 book in the last week or two, which means you  get two stories: Birth of the Tuatha de Danaan and the Gluttonous Comrade.
Oh, and don't forget to read the author's atogaki/afterword, which I translated since it was really quite funny - a bit outdated, sure, but still funny. And yes, he really does write like that, it's not my intentional familiarity. And I have to say, it was heartwarming to see KyoAni <3

As usual, sorry for any weird expressions/typos/anything else that went unnoticed, - I did try to correct all the three stories, though.

Couple of notes:
- on the hamster's name, I really couldn't think of anything that would sound cuter or less ridiculous... sorry =P
- who the hell is that Mai person? I haven't heard of Kaname being so pissed with someone (except Sousuke, of course). I've actually toned down what she said a little. Must be a lot of tension there. No idea, maybe she appears in the earlier short stories...

Now, a final word regarding the upcoming novels.
I'd love to pick them up (provided there are no release delays?), but it looks like I'm going to have a busy summer (potentially very busy, and I'll have my vacation during the semester, hah). So if I'm going to translate them, it'll most likely be in September. Ehh, I don't know how I'll manage my time then, hopefully there will be enough for everything.
Well, we'll see. Depends on scan availability, too. And if someone, like shutazen, picks them up before.

Gomennasai! Gomennasai!!... also, Voice From The North release (finally)
sorry

Yes, I know. I should really know better than to make promises like that. After my last post I was distracted for a bit by other stuff (Kara no Kyoukai is awesome, Legend of the Galactic Heroes is unparallelled), but the main delay was because of PC troubles (and it was at the editor's for a week). Thankfully I managed to restore files that I would have otherwise lost.

For the next release - Birth of the Tuatha De Dannan - I won't be making any promises; my semester's starting, and I'm not sure how much time I'll have. I've already done ten pages or so.

Progress report: Voice Of The North beta finished
[info]xmistervx
... because even translating feels ten times more EPIC with the Geass soundtrack!

Now for editing and polishing. Which means, the release is at most a week away (both versions, as usual).
I have been somewhat distracted lately by various things, like Gankutsuou (which everyone should watch), Death Note (I love apples and potato chips - guess on which side I was), and the new shows (Durarara!! looks promising, and so does Sora no Woto, despite K-On character designs), so yeah, this could have been out earlier... but come on, I've got the right to be lazy even in my free time.

I won't delay it much longer though, I promise.

Progress update (and other stuff...)
[info]xmistervx
I'm pleased to report that I've now finished translating the first half of "Voice from the North" (well, the beta version, at any rate, but I'm getting better at producing a smoother text from the very beginning, so there won't be that many changes left to do).
Don't expect me to do continue to do twenty pages a day though, since some of these were mostly dialogue and went by quite fast.

The story really is great. I could only have hoped for this kind of detailed background on what happened, from Kalinin himself, no less. Reading (and, consequently, writing) about little Sousuke and Kalinin is, well... touching, in a way. Sometimes makes you want to go "awwwww!" - even despite the fact that so far the predominant themes were tragedy and loss.

!Important!
Some bugs were reported to me with the PDF files, but not enough to determine whether it's always the case. Please tell me if you had any problems, I might look for another prog that creates PDFs, or use one of the online services.
Also, if you want to host the text somewhere - be my guest, just leave me a message about it, ok?

------

Hey all,

In celebration of this coming New Year I'm putting up two freshly translated short stories from FMP! They're the only non-animated and untranslated from the second volume.

Now, initially this was just to see if my Japanese courses paid off - and it turns out I really can translate the stories. Not that they're difficult or serious, but it's a small step towards breaking the language barrier.

Yes, I should mention that you shouldn't expect much from a first try, and besides, the stories are Fumoffu-type. Haven't released them earlier because I needed to do both the Russian and English versions at once, then send 'em to my friend, who graciously accepted to do the editing on the Russian version, and then make sure the two weren't that different. Besides, since the first story takes place on New Year's Eve, it's quite appropriate to release it now. I've already started translating the really interesting part - the Side Arms 2 collection (already did around twenty pages, but right now I've been put out of action by flu or some shit like that).

Ideally, I should be done with the first story from SA2 - Voice from the North - sometime in January, since it's holidays and I've got nothing better to do anyway, but it's 80 pages long (light novel format), and the text is at a whole different level of difficulty - possibly because Kalinin narrates it, or maybe Goto just improved his writing skills over time.

Anyways, Merry Christmas (and happy birthday to all Whispered), and a very happy New Year to all FMP! fans.
